UNAIDS
Public health training to increase knowledge on HIV, the global AIDS epidemic, and HIV prevention.
Overview

Project Description and Context
UNAIDS is leading the global effort to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030 as part of the Sustainable Development Goals. Education and training is one of their lead initiatives. The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) leads and inspires the world to achieve its shared vision of zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination and zero AIDS-related deaths. Starting in 2021, UNAIDS partnered with Improvement Sciences, a learning design and educational technology company based in the US to create a series of courses delivered in mobile, micro-learning format on the EdApp training platform
My Role
Learning Experience Design (LXD) Lead for Improvement Sciences, E-learning course Developer, and Project Manager working with a global distributed team of other designers, UNAIDS staff, SME’s and LMS partners.
Learning Experience Design process
I was brought in with Improvement Sciences to the UNAIDS project in August of 2021 to design and develop the foundational course in the series, HIV in Humanitarian Settings: Sustaining Treatment for All.
Working with the UNAIDS education team, I later adapted and developed source content into e-learning training modules on many topics including The Basics of HIV and AIDS, Growth Mindset, Design Thinking, Words Matter- HIV and AIDS Terminology and many others over the course of the next two years.
We converted much of the content from in-person trainings and power point decks and long form knowledge base documents to mobile microlearning.
Global impact
We designed the courses to allow them to be translated into multiple languages to reach audiences around the globe.

Course Launch
In 2023, UNAIDS released a number of courses to the public through the Educate All initiative. You can see the live UNAIDS courses on the EdApp Educate All library.
